Recall problems

Blog No Comments

Deep-rooted recall problems can depend on just how much fun the young dog experiences from a young age. The flight instinct period is usually between four to eight months old.¬† If, having run off a young male, for example puts up a rabbit and gives chase he will remember the ‘thrill of the chase’ and be less likely to respond to his owner yelling ‘Rover – COME’ when exercised in a familiar place where rabbit smells are abundant. Wise dog owners should be aware of this natural development phase and pay particular attention to their dog throughout this period.¬†¬† The moment they get the feeling that ‘Rover’ has the urge to wander and ignore the recall command the dog should be put back on a long recall/tracking¬†lead or¬†a flexilead.¬† This way bad recall habits are avoided.
